Summary
This dataset is an analysis dataset for each prefecture created by truestar using the administrative area data (polygon data) from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s National Land Numerical Information and the population statistics data from the national census published by the government’s statistics e-Stat.
For each polygon, the latitude and longitude of the prefectural capital city were obtained from the location information of the municipalities published by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan and the point data is also provided. However, all islands that do not contain representative points are classified as remote islands.
Features/Usages
We apply a polygon data join process to ensure that each record corresponds to a prefecture code, making it easy to match with statistical data by prefecture. The data includes basic statistics such as population and number of households, enabling hassle-free analysis and visualization of commercial areas at the prefectural level.
There are three types of polygon data: one that generalizes the boundaries of the raw data to make it lighter, one that excludes islands from the generalized data, and one that excludes islands only in Tokyo, which can be used according to the analysis purpose.
Matching with statistical data by prefecture code and sharing with GEOGRAPHY type enables easy mapping using BI or GIS tools.
