Summary

Asahiru Tokei ("Morning-Noon Statistics") measures where people actually are, throughout the day, across all of Japan. Derived from smartphone location data and processed into statistical estimates, it reports population in three-hour time bands for both weekdays and weekends, at a resolution of roughly 125 metres square.

Japan's census counts people where they live. Daytime population statistics count them where they work or study. Neither captures shoppers, commuters in transit, tourists, or evening foot traffic. Asahiru Tokei fills that gap.

Features

  • GEOM_MESH125: Each row carries the 125m grid polygon as a Snowflake GEOGRAPHY value, so you can join to your own point data with no separate boundary file required.

  • REGION_C: Every grid cell carries a classification code derived from its own population rhythm — entertainment district, business district, shopping and leisure area, or residential area — so you can segment locations by character without building your own clustering model.

  • Time bands: 16 figures per grid cell — eight three-hour bands for weekdays, and the same eight for weekends and public holidays.

  • Coverage: All of Japan (this sample covers the Ikebukuro area only).

  • Coverage period: data as of June 2026

      - Annual table: April 2025 to March 2026 (twelve-month average)
      - Quarterly table: January to March 2026 (three-month average)

      - Updated four times a year
