JAPANESE STREET DATA(日本の町丁目データ)

truestar inc. Polygon・Population Statistics Every year

Summary

This dataset is an analysis dataset for town-chome created by truestar based on the 2015 and 2020 national census data published on the government statistics e-Stat website. It integrates data included in multiple statistical tables of the “small area tabulation” in the national census.

Features/Usages

Polygon data is combined and numerical data is processed so that there is one record per town code, making it easy to match with the extensive statistical data from the 2015 Census.  We retain basic statistical data such as population and number of households, enabling effortless analysis and visualization of commercial areas at the town level.

In addition, sharing data in GEOGRAPHY type allows you easy mapping with BI and GIS tools. The dataset for small areas, which is the smallest granularity of population statistics as open data, is large and rather complex and difficult to handle, but sharing pre-processed analytical dataset makes it possible to conduct more detailed commercial area analysis effectively and quickly.

For 2020 data, only statistical data without polygon data has been released in advance.

Special Notes

※Processing of small area data

Regarding the processing of small area data, we determine whether the records are held at the “Oaza-cho” level or the “Aza-chome” level based on the statistical information contained in the original data. We then apply the necessary processing to ensure that each record represents a polygon with the appropriate granularity.

■ The basic logic is the following three patterns:

① The case where the original data does not contain records at the “Aza-chome” level.

Adopted because there is no record at the level of “Aza-chome”.

② The case where the original data contains records at the “Aza-chome” level and has statistical value.

Adopted: Records at the “Aza-chome” level.

Not adopted: Becase there is a record at the “Aza-chome” level.

③The case where the original data contains records at the “Aza-chome” level but does not contain statistics.

Adopted: Records at the “Aza-chome” level are available, but there are no statistics ⇒ Polygon integration occurs

Not adopted: Because there are no statistics, records at the “Oaza-cho” levels are adopted.
